Kisima Farm - At the end of the First World War, Will Powys drew several thousand acres around Kisima spring in the foothills of Mount Kenya under the soldier settler scheme. This was fortunate as the spring ensured his land had water and enabled him to survive the years ahead when many other settlers did not. Will went to work for an established farmer, taking his pay in trees, stock and machinery. In 1927, he was able to start his business at Kisima, 8000 feet above sea level. Will married Elizabeth and together they had three children: Rose, who lives at Ngare Ndare, Charles, who was killed in a gun accident in 1964 and Gilfrid, who chaired the Kisima board for 47 years and is the head of the Kisima enterprise. Members of the Powys Dyer family continue to work with and on Kisima farm.  Gilfrid Powys, Anne Powys, Francis Dyer and Michael Dyer are board members. Martin Dyer - General Manager of Kisima Flowers. Charles Dyer - General Manager of Foundation and Forestry. Supported by Shaun Miller - General Manager of Kisima Farm. Kisima was incorporated in 1943. Kisima is 100% Kenyan owned and operated.

Marania Farm - Marania farm has been in existence for about 100 years, with Merino Wool Sheep being the main enterprise and business that built the farm. Over time, wool prices have fallen and the Merino Sheep have now been replaced by Hampshire Down Sheep, whose main market is meat. Irralie Murray was instrumental in introducing Aberdeen Angus cattle to Marania and it is now is the only Aberdeen Angus stud in East Africa. The farm prides itself on supplying the best quality beef to a restaurant in Nairobi. George Murray investigated and introduced the option of growing crops in the farm and today, crops are the main enterprise. The farm plants wheat, barley, oats, peas, canola and Rhodes grass. Marania farm is 2,600ha, split 1,300ha for arable and 1,300ha for grazing.  Marania has invested in modern machinery, all equipped with satellite steering systems, with the precision agriculture model in mind. Their main aim is to make sure Marania farms as efficiently as possible and minimise losses due to inaccuracies. For more information about Marania, please contact James at  This email address is being protected from spambots. Sirai has its own watering hole and hide for in situ game viewing, however game drives in the custom-made Land Rover, sumptuous bush picnics, walking safaris and numerous other excursions can be arranged, as can riding safaris for experienced riders; Sirai is home to a stable of beautiful horses and operates as a working stud
