The Slide is our entry-level category and is ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Mount Kenya landscape without the pressure to finish first. Perfect for families, weekend mountain bikers, and those who are ready to leave the adrenaline to younger, fitter riders, the Slide is very much an experience rather than a full-on race.

Please note, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Slide and the new race, the Swift, follow the same route, but the Slide remains the category for families and those who come along for the experience rather than the competition, while the Swift is aimed at teenage and young at heart riders who are ready to race.

Over the past few years, my family and I have taken part in several 10to4 races, and every edition has been truly unforgettable. I’ve ridden the Slide three times, and this year I’ll be back on the course with my eldest child once again. The races are incredibly fun and exceptionally well organised, but what makes the experience truly special is cycling through breathtaking scenery, close to wildlife, and across landscapes you simply won’t find anywhere else.

If you’re considering signing up for the first time, I couldn’t recommend it more, both the race itself and the full experience at Borana Village. The atmosphere there is genuinely unique: warm, energetic, and filled with the shared excitement that brings riders and families together. Whether you’re racing or cheering on your kids, staying in the village adds a whole new layer to the adventure. Whatever race you choose, just dive in, you’ll finish the weekend already looking forward to the next edition.
